Data protection: Consultation on the Information Commissioner’s Office employment practices code

Published 12 October 2021

The ICO is planning to update its Employment Practices Code and has issued a “call for views” from interested parties.

THE FACTS

The ICO is seeking to update its Employment Practices Code and related guidance which has not been changed since 2011, well before the GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 came into effect.  The aim is to replace the Code with a more user-friendly online resource which reflects the seismic changes in data protection law and practice over this period. It has issued a “call for views” from interested parties.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR EMPLOYERS?

Employers can respond to the consultation by completing a survey on the ICO website.

DAC Beachcroft is working with the Employment Lawyers Association, the professional association for employment lawyers, on a response to the consultation.
