COVID-19: Updated guidance follows end of shielding

Published 12 October 2021

The COVID-19 guidance for people previously considered clinically extremely vulnerable (CEV) has been updated following confirmation of the end of the shielding programme.

The Government has stated that people who were previously considered CEV will not be advised to shield in the future or follow specific national guidance.

The guidance has now been updated to say that shielding has ended, but that those in this category should continue to follow the same general COVID-19 guidance as the rest of the population on how to stay safe. There are suggestions of additional precautions people may wish to take and the guidance states that CEV people should consider advice from their health professional on whether additional precautions are appropriate.
