Disease

Our Disease Unit has an unrivalled depth of knowledge and expertise in connection with all disease claims whether multi-claimant noise-induced hearing loss or sexual abuse or individual occupational cancer or dermatitis claims. Our experience relates not just to pre-and post litigated claims but also strategic advice on emerging issues.

Members of the Unit are based across our offices in Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, London, Manchester, Newcastle and Winchester.

They have specialist knowledge of one or more of the following specific topics:

  • asbestos
  • asthma and dermatitis
  • noise-induced hearing loss and vibration white finger 
  • occupational cancer
  • strategic and political overview, including emerging trends such as pleural plaques, passive smoking and nanotechnology
  • stress, harassment and abuse
  • work-related upper limb disorders, including whole body vibration and cumulative back injury

Our clients include most major insurance companies; Government and private bodies from the health, education, charity and other sectors; and many household name corporate clients including those from the chemical, aerospace, shipbuilding and logistics industries.

  • before and after issue of proceedings claims management, where our clients have secure access through our dedicated system to the latest updates on their case as well as detailed costs and management information
  • claims handling, from service of proceedings to settlement or trial
  • research - into policyholders, insurance histories and other aspects of a claim
  • claims investigation
  • issue advisory services, regarding risks, claims and liability, helping clients both to react to events and to shape future changes
