Neil Scott



Neil has 27 years' experience dealing with a wide range of criminal and regulatory proceedings. He has defended in serious criminal cases including fraud, homicide and conspiracy.

He assists the Health and Regulatory team in representing MDU members under investigation/prosecution for criminal offences, including two jury acquittals in 2015.

In the last 15 years he has specialised in regulatory investigations and prosecutions including planning enforcement, animal movement and welfare cases, and in particular health and safety and environmental prosecutions.

Recent high profile health and safety cases include the successful representation of the Managing Director in the Princes Sport Club corporate manslaughter case, and representation of Rotary Yorkshire Ltd in the first case on the use by HSE Enforcement Notices to reach the Court of Appeal.

During his time at Foot Anstey, Neil prosecuted cases for the HSE and at Amicus prosecuted on behalf of the RSPCA.

He has extensive advocacy experience in the Magistrates Court and has also dealt with confiscation cases under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, and was an MLRO at Alms & Young and Deputy MLRO at Foot Anstey.

His expertise in environmental offences includes pollution cases, and waste management prosecutions brought by the environment agency culminating in the successful defence of four defendants in the largest waste prosecution ever brought by the EA, just before joining DAC Beachcroft. Neil represents farmers and contractors in agricultural pollution cases instructed by NFU Mutual.
