Emma Bowens specialises in corporate criminal defence and prosecution. She represents companies and individuals investigated and prosecuted by the Police and other Regulatory Authorities e.g. the HSE, Environment Agency, Trading Standards and Environmental Health departments.
She regularly represents both organisations and individuals in relation to major explosions, exposure to asbestos, falls from height, accidents resulting from driving for work, fire related incidents/risk and also fatalities, amputations and crush injuries in the manufacturing and construction industries.
She represents food manufacturers and those in the leisure industry in hygiene and food safety investigations, including foreign body complaints, food poisoning outbreaks and poor hygiene standards discovered during EHO inspections.
In addition, she has represented a number of companies investigated by Trading Standards under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008. Examples include allegations of aggressive or misleading sales techniques, packaging that is deemed misleading and products that are potentially unsafe or misleading.
Emma has extensive experience of the investigative and prosecution processes and regularly represents clients at interviews under caution. She is also an experienced advocate for both prosecution and defence, having conducted cases in both Magistrates and Crown Courts.
In addition, Emma regularly provides training to Boards of Directors, senior managers and workers on the impact of regulatory prosecutions, and is able to advise on practical solutions to regulatory challenges.
