Tom leads a national client team for the largest property and casualty insurer in the world. Based in our London City office, he provides advice on complex claims encompassing, amongst other things, major losses and issues of reputational concern to the client.
His practice includes complex policy indemnity issues including fraud, construction related matters, engineering, product liability and high value property damage claims, including fire and flood, as well as acting in subrogated actions.
Tom has considerable experience of fraudulent claims, principally first party fire and flood, and the attendant issues, including the interplay with the Police/CPS and reputational considerations for insurers.
Recent examples of such work include the destruction by arson of a security business in Wales (the reported case of Genesisuk.net Ltd v Allianz Insurance Ltd EWHC 3676 (QB)) and a large commercial premises in Scotland.
Away from advisory work, Tom remains actively involved in DAC Beachcroft's work on the Law Commission's ongoing Review of Insurance Contract Law, having undertaken a year long secondment to the Association of British Insurers, where he advised on and co-ordinated the Insurance Market's responses to the proposals.
