Richard is a Claims Solutions lawyer in our Birmingham office.
He specialises in defending claims for personal injury that arise in the sporting arena and he is instructed to act on behalf of sport's governing bodies, clubs, event organisers and participants in a wide variety of sports including all types of motorsport, cricket, football and rugby.
Amongst other notable cases, Richard acted on behalf of the defendant football club in the case of Skinner v Bedford Town Football Club . The claim was brought following a challenge made during a semi-professional football match, as a result of which the claimant suffered serious injury. Following a two day trial the claim against the club was dismissed.
Richard also advises sporting clients upon regulatory issues. He holds a Post Graduate Certificate in sport law and regularly lectures upon issues arising from personal injury in sport.
In addition, Richard regularly advises insurers on claims involving animals. Richard acted on behalf of the defendant charity in the case of Clifton v Riding for the Disabled Association . The claim was brought following an accident during a riding school and was dismissed following a trial upon all issues including the applicability of section 2(2) Animals Act 1971.
Richard also acted on behalf of the successful Second Defendant in the reported case of Young v Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council & Merthyr & Rhondda Cynon Taff Ground Work Trust , a case that involved the applicability of the Occupiers Liability Act 1957.
In 2005, Richard qualified as a Chartered Legal Executive having joined DAC Beachcroft in 2000.
