Jonathan specialises in commercial and residential landlord and tenant disputes including housing law. He acts for a broad range of clients including institutional landlords, private landlords and tenants, registered providers of social housing, NHS Trusts and other public bodies.
His work encompasses possession/forfeiture claims, disrepair/dilapidations, rent and service charge arrears, breach of covenant claims, lease renewal/extension claims, and rights of way disputes.
Jonathan works extensively in the First-Tier Tribunal Property Chamber (formerly Leasehold Valuation Tribunal) and the County Court. In particular his Tribunal work covers consultation processes for major works, dispensation from consultation, making and defending applications for the appointment of a manager and Right To Manage applications. He has also advised on a number of Right of First Refusal matters under Part I Landlord and Tenant Act 1987.
In December 2015, Jonathan concluded a complex service charge dispute involving the a building comprising commercial and residential units. The building formed part of the investment portfolio of a large insurance concern. The complex lease structure and atypical constitution of the management company meant caused the dispute to last a number of years, and resulted in actions in both the County Court and the First-Tier Tribunal Property Chamber.
