Jessica Major qualified as a solicitor in 2004 and is an associate in the Healthcare Risk team, Bristol. Jessica undertakes a variety of advisory work on behalf of Acute Trusts, commissioners and providers including Mental Health Trusts. She has particular experience in advising clients on matters relating to consent, capacity and medical treatment decisions, as well as information governance issues and mental health.
Also, Jessica regularly appears on behalf of trusts in complex inquests. Linked with this, she has gained significant experience of supporting NHS bodies during Serious Untoward Incident investigations, and advising on legal aspects of healthcare risk management. She works regularly with Primary Care Trusts advising on continuing healthcare and responsible commissioner disputes.
Jessica has an interest in medical ethics, previously working as a medical law advisor in the BMA's ethics department prior to qualifying as a lawyer, and currently sits on Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust's Clinical Ethics Committee.
