Tom Corrigan



Tom Corrigan handles all aspects of property-related insurance claims including policy coverage, fraud, recoveries and liability.

He has acted in a large number of cases where insurers have successfully declined policy liability for breach of policy conditions or fraud. Significant cases include: 

  • Porter v Zurich Insurance which established the legal test in circumstances where an insured damaged his own property whilst suffering from a mental illness;
  • Cornhill Insurance  v DE Stamp on the interpretation of hot work policy conditions; 
  • Smith & others v UKPN which is the leading authority on the duty of care owed by electricity distribution companies.

He was a member of the book team that produced the “Subsidence Handbook” in conjunction with the Subsidence Forum. 

Tom regularly advises insurers on strategic issues relating to recoveries and has drafted Best Practice Recovery Guidelines.
