DAC Beachcroft Continues to Build in Leeds with Latest Senior Tech Law Appointment
Published On: 19 November 2015
Richard recently joined the firm from Pinsent Masons, where he was the senior specialist technology lawyer in the North.
A specialist in systems integration, procurement and outsourcing in both the public and private sectors, Richard has extensive experience advising an array of blue-chip clients in the UK and overseas. He is also recognised as a leading IT expert in key industry guides The Legal 500 and Chambers.
This appointment marks DAC Beachcroft's latest investment in the region. Earlier this summer, the firm completed its move into new premises in Leeds at St Paul's House, a Grade II* Listed, landmark building in the city centre.
Richard is reunited with former colleague of 15 years, Michael Peeters, who joined from Pinsents four years ago. Michael is the only lawyer in the North recommended in the International Who's who for Information Technology lawyers. Together with IT projects specialist Emilie Yates, this means DAC Beachcroft's Leeds team now boasts three senior IT specialists with more than 50 years' experience between them. According to leading legal directory Chambers and Partners UK 2015, the firm is now home to two out of the six Band 1 Information Technology Lawyers in the Yorkshire region.
Commenting on the appointment, Michael Peeters said: "Richard's arrival is further evidence of the reputation of our Leeds office as a full-service commercial law option for the major local market. In combination with our increased investment in specialist areas like IT across our Northern network, we can offer a compelling, commercial alternative that combines high-quality advice with great value."
Tim Sewart, head of DAC Beachcroft's Technology practice, said: "We're delighted to welcome Richard to the team. To be able to attract an experienced lawyer of his calibre speaks volumes to the high esteem in which our team is held in this competitive market."
Tim added: "Our technology law practice in the North is now one of the largest in the region and works seamlessly with our growing national technology practice, which last year advised on £2bn worth of deals."
Richard Watkinson said: "I'm delighted to be joining DAC Beachcroft and its nationally recognised team of technology lawyers. With my appointment, the firm has continued its major investment in what was already one of the largest practices of its kind based in the region."
"I'm excited to be joining an experienced and growing team who share a real commitment and passion to giving clients, both locally and beyond, the very best advice and support on business-critical technology projects."
